There follow a series of four books on the element of "meta-drama" in the famous "four great tragedies" of Shakespeare. By the word "meta-drama" is meant the presence in each play of something more than mere "drama", something that eludes the attention not only of spectators but even of scholars – unless they read between the lines, according to the original Latin meaning of "intelligence".
